The agency’s first program – a 25-bed residential treatment facility – opened in Swissvale in 1991. Today. it continues to be Allegheny County’s only halfway house program for adult women, and through the generosity and support of the community, has been able to serve more than 1,500 women working hard to reclaim their lives from the devastation of untreated chemical dependency.

What specific services are provided at POWER House?
Services are delivered by a diverse and dedicated staff who have a wealth of experience in treating addictions. Specific services include:
Individual Therapy
Group Therapy
Trauma-specific Groups
Creative Writing
Drug & Alcohol Education
Life Skills Development Classes
(covering topics like healthcare issues, parenting training, budgeting, relapse prevention and establishing a sober-support group)
Peer Group Counseling
Family Counseling as needed
Resource Coordination/Case Management
(including referrals for housing, job training, education, employment and other community-based services)
Discharge & Aftercare Planning
Follow-Up

Eligibility
If you are an adult woman – at least 18 years of age – struggling with substance abuse and ready to make a change, you may be eligible for our residential treatment program.

Criteria
Have completed a D&A rehabilitation program within the last year or meet the Pennsylvania Client Placement Criteria for the halfway house level of care
Have a sincere desire to learn to live without the use of alcohol or other drugs
Agree to live in a community designed to support and empower women in their recovery
Do not have any serious mental or physical health issues that would interfere with ability to participate in all aspects of the program

Once all referral materials are received, an interview will be scheduled to explore possible admission

If you are an alcohol or other drug treatment provider, or any agency that would like to refer a woman to POWER House, the following is necessary:

Your client must be informed of and agree with the referral.
Please send, or facilitate the submission of, a psychosocial narrative with a Discharge Summary if available, from the last rehabilitation or drug treatment program; along with a copy of the most recent physical health history signed by a physician; and proof of TB testing.
   
In the following order, priority is given to women who are: pregnant intravenous drug users; pregnant non-intravenous drug users; non-pregnant intravenous drug users; and all other women who suffer from substance use disorder.
