POWER shall ensure the availability of preferential treatment to pregnant women. Priority is given to women as follows: (a) pregnant injection-drug users; (b) pregnant substance users; (c) injection-drug users; and (d) all others.

POWER offers a full range of gender-responsive, trauma-informed treatment and support services to women who are experiencing problems with alcohol or other drugs. Our unique continuum of care is designed to reflect the lives of women. Programming addresses issues like social stigma, trauma, physical and gynecological health, parenting, relationships, self-esteem, and mental illness — all within a gender-specific framework. POWER’s focus is on client strengths and we believe that empowering women leads to healthy families and strong communities.

Treatment Programs
Our programs and services are created especially to meet the needs of women. Pregnant women
and women with co-occurring disorders are welcome at POWER. We understand the impact of violence
on the lives of women and incorporate trauma services in all of our treatment programs.

Specific services include:
Screening & assessment
Individual & group therapy, including expressive arts therapy
Psychiatric consultation
Life skills development classes
Case management
Support for 12-Step participation
Aftercare & discharge planning
Yoga, tai chi, and mindful meditation

These treatment services are offered through our residential and outpatient programs.

Recovery Support Programs
In addition to providing gender-responsive treatment, POWER supports the efforts of recovering women through two community partnerships – one with Allegheny County’s Office of Children, Youth & Families (CYF) and Magee-Womens Hospital of UPMC known as POWER Connection, and the other with the Allegheny Jail Collaborative, known as POWER Aftercare.

Services include:
In-home assessment and referral to treatment
Mentoring
Case management
Psycho-education groups

The goals of both programs are to help women gain a deeper understanding of how their use of alcohol or other drugs has impacted their lives, match them to the right treatment program, and assist them in developing natural supports within their own communities.
